Na prelome tisícročia, takmer 50 rokov po smrti Brigitte Irrgang, sa jej dostalo cti, že bola prijata do zoznamu „mučeníkov Kristových“. Ten bol vytvorený na podnet Svätého Otca, pápeža Jána Pavla II. preto, aby ľudia čerpali dôveru a nádej zo spomienok na tieto vzory.
Brigitte Irrgang napísala do svojho spovedného zošita modlitbu k Panne Márii, ktorú sa často modlila:
O moja pani,
o moja matka,
Tebe sa celá oddávam.
Aby som Ti vyjadrila moju oddanosť,
zasvätím Ti dnes moje oči,
uši, ústa i moje srdce
a mňa úplne celú,
pretože Ti patrím, o dobrá matka,
stráž ma, ochraňuj ma
ako svoj majetok a vlastníctvo.
Brigitte Julia Irrgang sa narodila v Handlovej na strednom Slovensku, v obci osídlenej Nemcami. Jej otec, Wilhelm Irrgang, bol riaditeľ školy v Handlovej
a podporoval nadregionálny kultúny život. Brigittina matka, Jolanta Irrgang Paull, pochádzala zo starousadlíckej handlovskej rodiny. Brigittin rodný dom je škola na námestí, ktorú vybudoval jej otec.
Po evakuácii a následnom vyhnaní sa rodina v lete 1946 dostala do mestečka Loitz v prednom Pomoransku. Aj v novom prostredí žila rodina Irrgangová verne jej katolíckemu vierovyznaniu. Brigitte bola dievča tešiace sa zo života, také „slniečko“.
Od leta 1954 sa pripravovala na prijatie sviatosti birmovania. V roku 1952 bola na prvom sv. prijímaní. Za svoju birmovnú patrónku si zvolila Máriu Goretti, ktorá bola niekoľko rokov predtým vyhlásená za svätú. Brigitte Irrgang si vzala túto malú sväticu za svoj vzor.
29. septembra 1954, na sviatok sv. Michala archanjela, - dobré dva týždne pred jej birmovkou- padla Brigitte Irrgang pred školou, len niekoľko metrov od dverí jej rodičovského bytu, za obeť sexuálnemu vrahovi. Celé mesto Loitz prežívalo túto tragédiu.
V októbri 2004 si mesto Loitz spolu s katolíckou a evanjelickou cirkvou, ako aj s väčšou skupinou občanov z mesta Handlová spoločne s ich kňazom, pripomenulo 50. výročie Brigittinej smrti.
V roku 2011 vznikol „Kruh priateľov Brigitte-Irrgang“, ku ktorému patria aj členovia z Handlovej a okolia.

Brigitte Irrgang was born in the Carpathian Mountains, in Krickerhau in Hauerland, a formerly German settlement within what is now Slovakia.Her parents were teachers. She was the fifth of six children and the only girl.
In 1944, at the end of the war, the family had to flee with around 1000 school children to the West towards the German-Czechoslovakian border. Like a lot other Sudeten Germans the Irrgang’s were evicted to Loitz in West Pomerania in the year 1946. The father became rector of the local school with the task to bring it up to high school standards. The family lived in the school’s adjoining flat for teachers.
In their new home in West Pomerania the family still lived a faithful catholic life, despite the hostile environment. They had to go long distances to reach the nearest church, but above all they need to proof steadfastness in confrontation with the political regime of the East German Republic and its spies. Brigitte was a girl full of joy, a „ray of sunshine“. In the summer of 1954 she started preparation to receive the sacrament Confirmation. She already had received her first Holy Communion in 1952. For her confirmation name she had chosen the name of St. Maria Goretti, who was beatified just a couple of years before. Brigitte Irrgang studied the life of this small saint and was a great admirer of hers. On the 29th of September 1954, the Feast of the Holy Archangels, a good two weeks before her Confirmation, she was on her way home from school and only a couple of meters away from the door of the parental flat when she was victim of a sexual aggressor who killed her. The whole town of Loitz mourned with her parents.
At the turn of the Millenium, almost 50 years after her death Brigitte received the honor of being inscribed in the register of the „Witnesses for Christ“ together with approximately 700 other German martyrs of the 20 th century. This register was compiled on the suggestion of holy Pope John Paul II. By remembering such shining examples who emerged in the darkness which characterized the last century, people are meant to find hope and gain optimism.

The book by Leonie Rust-Garam „Um den Preis ihres Lebens“ features existing documental evidence by contemporary witnesses of Brigitte Irrgang. The sad circumstances of her death are an important part of her life. But it is above all the witness of Brigitte’s teachers, the parish priest, a girl friend and other family friends, which convey an idea of her clear, warm hearted and deeply religious personality. Some original notes and a photographic appendix round off the impression of the surprisingly mature character of this girl. The book reminds us of just one of the many children and young people who were murdered in the same way and their and her memory alive. The message is clear: Even this young life was not lived in vain, it left a shining and permanent legacy and thus gives us hope.
Brigitte Irrgang wrote the following well known prayer into her "notebook for confession". She used to pray it quite often.
MY QUEEN! MY MOTHER! I give thee all myself, and to show my devotion to thee, I consecrate to thee my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my entire self. Therefore, O loving Mother, as I am thy own, keep me, defend me, as thy property. Amen.

Brigitte Irrgang est originaire de la région des Carpates, de la ville de Krickerhau dans le Hauerland, une ancienne colonie allemande située dans ce qui correspond aujourd’hui à la Slovaquie. De parents instituteurs, Brigitte était la cinquième de six enfants, unique fille de la famille.
En 1944, à la fin de la guerre, la famille Irrgang est contrainte de fuir, accompagnée de quelque 1.000 enfants, en direction del’ouest et de la frontière germano-tchèque. En 1946, les Irrgang sont expulsés à Loitz, en Poméranie Occidentale, avec des Allemands originaires des Sudètes. Là, le père de Brigitte est nommé directeur d’une école et chargé d’agrandir l’établissement pour en faire un lycée. La famille est logée dans les locaux de l’école, dans un appartement réservé au directeur. Installée en Poméranie, la famille Irrgang, catholique pratiquante, reprend son mode de vie habituel. Dans ce contexte de diaspora, cela implique tout d’abord pour eux de parcourir de longues distances pour se rendre à la messe, mais également de faire preuve d’une grande constance dans leurs convictions face au régime politique del’Allemagne de l’Est et à la dénonciation.
Brigitte Irrgang est une jeune fille respirant la joie de vivre, un véritable «rayon de soleil». Elle fait sa première communion en 1952 et commence à préparer sa confirmation durant l’été 1954. Elle choisit comme nom de confirmation celui de Sainte Marie Goretti, béatifiée quelques années auparavant. Brigitte Irrgang étudia la vie de cette modeste sainte et en fût une grande admiratrice. Le 29 septembre 1954, jour de la fête des archanges, deux bonnes semaines avant sa confirmation, alors qu’elle rentre de l’école et quelques mètres seulement avant d’atteindre le seuil du domicile familial, Brigitte Irrgang est victime d’une agression sexuelle. Son agresseur tente de la violer mais n’y parvient pas, surpris avant d’avoir pu agir. Brigitte succombe à cette cruelle agression. Toute la ville de Loitz est endeuillée. A l’aube du 21mè siècle, près de 50 ans après sa mort, Brigitte Irrgang et quelques 700 autres martyrs allemands du 20eme siècle, sont honorés en étant inscrits dans le registre des «Témoins du Christ», projet à l’initiative du saint Pape Jean-Paul II. En honorant la mémoire de personnalités marquantes de ce siècle, Jean-Paul II invite les fidèles à vivre dans l’espérance et l’optimisme malgré les ténèbres qui nous entourent.

Brigitte naquit le 10 février 1943 en KRICKERHAU (Slovaquie),fuit à Poméranie en 1946. Elle habita à LOITZ dès 1949 ou elle fût étudiante au collège de DIESTERWEG.
Le 29 septembre de 1954 elle est victime d’un agresseur sexuel.
Grâce à sa joie de vivre et à sa serviabilité elle conquit les cœurs des habitants de Loitz. Nous l’aimions pour sa clarté, sa modestie et son cœur profond.
L’ouvrage de LeonieRust-Garam „Au prix de sa vie“ (en allemand: „Um den Preis ihres Lebens“) regroupe de nombreuses informations sur Brigitte Irrgang, fournies par les contemporains de cette Sainte. Les circonstances accablantes de sa mort constituent une part importante de sa vie. Mais ce sont avant tout les témoignages des professeurs de Brigitte, du prêtre de la paroisse, d’une amie et d’autres amis de la famille qui décrivent au lecteur la personnalité à la fois pure, chaleureuse et profondément religieuse de Brigitte Irrgang. Des esquisses et des annexes photographiques accompagnent le portrait de cette jeune fille ayant fait preuve d’une étonnante maturité. L’ouvrage invite par la même occasion à se souvenir de tous les autres enfants et jeunes victimes d’agressions semblables et les préserve ainsi de l’oubli. Le message est aisément compréhensible: cette existence, bien que courte et interrompue prématurément, a un sens. Elle a laissé une trace indélébile et donne del’espoir.
Brigitte Irrgang avait inscrit dans son "carnet de confession" la prière suivante à la Vierge qu’elle prierait souvent:
O ma Souveraine et ma Mère, je me donne tout à vous, et pour vous prouver mon dévouement, je vous consacre aujourd’hui mes yeux, mes oreilles, ma bouche, mon cœur et tout moi-même. Ainsi, puisque je vous appartiens, ô ma bonne Mère, gardez-moi, défendez-moi comme votre bien et votre propriété. Amen.

Brigitte Irrgang proviene dai monti Carpazi, da Krickerhau nell’ Hauerland, una zona della antica colonia tedesca dell’attuale Rep. Slovacca. I suoi genitori erano insegnanti. Brigitte era la quinta di sei figli, l’unica ragazza.
Nel 1944 dopo la caduta del fronte orientale, la famiglia dovette fuggire verso ovest alla frontiera tedesco-ceca, con circa 1000 bambini della scuola. Nel 1946 la famiglia Irrgang venne scacciata con altri tedeschi dei Sudeti a Loitz, nella Pomerania occidentale. Il padre divenne il direttore della scuola del luogo, con il compito di trasformarla in un ginnasio. La famiglia abitava nell’appartamento della scuola riservato all’insegnante.
Anche nella nuova situazione, la famiglia viveva fedelmente la sua fede cattolica, che nella diaspora significava non solo trovarsi lontano dalla Chiesa, ma soprattutto fermezza nei confronti del regime della DDR e delle sue spie. Brigitte era una ragazza felice di vivere, un raggio di sole.
Nel 1952 aveva ricevuto la Prima Comunione. Dall’estate 1954 si stava preparando a ricevere il sacramento della Cresima. Come nome di Cresima aveva scelto Maria Goretti, canonizzata pochi anni prima. Brigitte Irrgang era molto interessata alla vita di questa piccola santa e la scelse come modello. Il 29 settembre 1954, festa degli Arcangeli Michele, Raffaele e Gabriele, esattamente due settimane prima della Cresima, cadde vittima di un maniaco sessuale, a pochi metri dalla porta dell’appartamento dei genitori, mentre tornava a casa. L’intera città di Loitz partecipò profondamente al dolore della famiglia. Brigitte era di due mesi più giovane di Maria Goretti, suo grande modello.
Nel passaggio del millennio, quasi 50 anni dopo la sua morte, Brigitte Irrgang ha avuto l’onore di essere inserita con circa 700 martiri tedeschi del ventesimo secolo nella lista dei “testimoni di Gesù”, redatta su iniziativa del Papa Giovanni Paolo II. L’intera umanità dovrebbe attingere fiducia e speranza da questi esempi fioriti nell’ultimo secolo, non ostante le sue grandi ombre.

Le testimonianze su Brigitte Irrgang vengono ampiamente documentate nel libro di Leonie Rust-Garam “Um den Preis ihres Lebens” (= A costo della vita). Le circostanze terribili della sua morte sono un’ importante parte della sua vita. Soprattutto preziose le testimonianze su Brigitte degli insegnanti, del parroco, di un’amica, di altri amici di famiglia. Esse trasmettono al lettore chiare impressioni della sua natura limpida, calda e allo stesso tempo profondamente religiosa.
Schizzi e foto definiscono l’immagine della sorprendente, matura personalità di questa ragazza. Il libro ricordando una dei tanti bambini e ragazzi uccisi in modo simile, sottra e dall’oblio anche tutti gli altri.
Il messaggio è facile da capire: la breve vita di Brigitte non è stata inutile, essa ha lasciato una traccia duratura che infonde speranza.
Brigitte Irrgang scrisse nel suo “quaderno della confessione” la nota preghiera mariana che recitava spesso:
O mia Signora, o Madre mia, a te consegno tutto dime. Per dimostrarti la mia offerta, ti consacro oggi i miei occhi, le mie orecchie, la mia bocca, il mio cuore, tutta me stessa. Poiché dunque ti appartengo, o Madre buona, proteggimi, custodiscimi come tuo bene e tua proprietà. Amen.
